With lots of green painters paper vines and palm leaves. The I'll use an idea from the Group board and make some trees w/ netting on the ceiling and crape-paper hanging down.
I like this new green board.

at the end of our SonRock Kids Camp closing service I mentioned that next year the campers would be going to the rainforest and to keep an eye out for supplies they would need on their trip. Parents and others came up and were telling me they would be watching for sales of end of summer stuff and tropical related things to store up for decorating. Already have recieved a tucan, palms and use of some stuffed monkeys. Cracker Barrel has a parrot that will repeat what you say that I "need" to buy for next year. We plan on using lots of vines (artificial and wild grape) :)

Where and how do I go about finding the decorating ideas that the website refers to from other churches. I have to decorate our church for the daughter of the king banquet in November and am looking for some new ideas. Can you help?

oh how FUN is THAT! i'd be looking for appliance boxes i could paint/cut to look like stone arches/castle walls. i'd hunt the thrift shops and dollar fabric places for purple and royal blue fabric, gold tulle or lame' or whatever looks royal! i'd probably even have a little raised platform with a throne on it and take the photo of every princess who comes in, seated ever so royally! :) have fun.. i hope that whatever you do to decorate, it communicates that these lovely ladies, young and old, are ROYAL!!!

I was looking at the pictures of the test site for SonQuest Rainforest and wanted to know if anyone can tell me what the green "netting" type material was that was on the ceiling in these photos?

it's called gossamer. if you're old enough to remember pellon, it's like that but in a multitude of colors...and even some prints! comes in a wide roll, probably 60" and can be bought online or at some fabric stores. google "gossamer fabric" and you'll get lots of choices! :)

Oriental Trading has a large blowup alligator and a large blow up monkey. I thought about getting those. I want to set up the front stage with a "waterfall". Hmmm...Now the hard part...how to pull it off!

make that waterfall with garbage bags stuffed with newspaper and sprayed lightly with spray paint in a contrasting "earthtone" (gray trashbags--55 gallon--and beige or brown spray "dots")...then use that gossamer. Biggest trick is to frame it so that kids don't knock it down! (Easy to attach to a sturdy ladder--or build a frame, for the handy!):p

Every time I try to download those files, I just get a black screen. Does anyone else have problems viewing these?

I'm not having any problems downloading the individual pictures of the SonQuest Rainforest VBS Centers and the Decor Video but I just recently got a new computer so it's probably something on your end that's not working right.
God Bless,
Josh :)

Last year we made a waterfall using a large wedding arch as our base. All I did was attach a combination of light blue, dark blue, and like one white plastic table cloth to the top of the arch. Then, I shredded the table clothes with scissors and a box cutter, interlacing them as I went. I covered up the sides and squared up the tops with gray butcher paper giving it the crumpled up rock look. It turned out really well last year and I have saved the tablecloth water part and look forward to doing it again and maybe making another.
(Funny how that all sounds so easy in print, huh?)

Does Anyone know what the best way to decorate a staircase would be, ours leads down to the classrooms and I am just having trouble on the decorating of the staircase I have ideas as to what I want at the top and bottom, but staircase itself is tricky. Any ideas?

There are your five layers of the rainforest!!! Put treetops at the top and work your way down to where your lower level is the river with those lily pads and amazing pink dolphins!
Yeah! Now i wish I had a stairway to decorate!

another idea (and i love the 5 layers idea- we have 2 staircases that we can decorate) hang tree branches, leaves, palm fronds and vines from ceiling over stairs making the tree canopy effect. have snakes, birds, frogs hanging down or on the walls. Catch a couple crickets and let loose for the "natural sound"

Vines?!?! Have you used the short rolls of paper in the painters dept,it comes in brown ^ green. It makes GREAT vines. Add a few construction paper leaves & maybe some flowers.

Something I just discovered which may help in decorating is from Ikea. Go to the website, click on children's Ikea, click on sleeping, go to page 2 and scroll down until you find LOVA Bed Canopy. It is like a giant leaf which could be attached to something to make a canopy. If your budget stretches this far ($14.99 each) it would be great to buy some, or it may give you an idea of something you could make, to fill in an empty space that needs some colour. (I'm thinking of using coat hanger wire and cheap green fabric). Also, while you're on the Ikea site, check out the soft toys for 49c each which could be used for prizes!!

How would I work a food drive into this years design? Last year for Sonrock Kids Camp, we brought in a large canoe and asked the kids to help us fill the canoe with food for the needy, this year I was going to do the same thing, but I need help with an idea that goes with the theme! Ideas?

How about a tree house? Or you could build a bird's nest....or you could have them fill up the pool of water at the end of a waterfall (and then just cover it up with blue plastic to conceal the pile). You could still use the canoe which would be coming down the river (like the Amazon river).
I need decorating resources - where is everyone buying your decorations? Where can I buy the gossamer? Blue plastic drop cloths? Green painter's paper? Any other ideas on how to best do this - is everyone just kind of going with a massive amount of green leafy stuff, then adding a water fall, and animals?
I am on a very limited budget and would love to know how much you are spending on decor. We have a pretty large stage and several other areas which I need to be able to decorate on the cheap.

green plastic tablecloths are 99 cents...and they cover a lot of territory! :) tape them with strapping tape from the back, drape them...throw up those vines and then project some of those fun animals so you can outline and paint /cut out from poster board! blue tablecloths make the water!
the gossamer is more expensive, just google the word. you'll find several online sources. Nylon netting/tulle, works great, too.
I'd be scavenging yard sales and thrift shops for anything green or blue. never know when someone is practically giving away JUST what you need (hm....sounds like Matthew 6....seek Him and all those green things shall be added....!)

I usually find the painters paper at Home Depot in the painting section w/ the tape. It is 3"x60yards. You can just twist it and cut it to size. The you can staple on leaves and/or tissue paper flowers.
You can see what I did for Kingdom of the Son here:

Couple of tips for you.
1. Use the painters paper, twist the end, put it in an electric or battery powered drill (remove the bit and put the paper where the bit goes) and push the "on" button. It will twist the paper for you!
We decorated for a rainforest in Sunday school. I am posting pictures below.

This time we did not decorate the ceiling. Before we covered the ceiling with green too.
I cannot find the picture of the front of the room. Will add it later. Please note, these were taken at a workshop we did, which is why there are adults not kids in the pictures.
