How do the "grades" work?

When talking about the grades for the individual classes, are they talking about completed grades or grades they will go into the next school year? For example, for the 5&6 grade class, is that children who completed 5&6 grade last year, or will be going into 5&6 grade?

I think it just depends on the church. At our church, I use the grades the kids just came out of because they are still in that grade Sunday School class. And, I there tends to be a world of difference between kids coming out of kindergarten compared to those coming out of 1st grade. I hope some of that makes since.

At our church, we use the grades the kids are going into, because as soon as school is over, they think of themselves in the next grade!
