When we did KOTS, we made a huge elephant, rhino, and hippo out of a gigantic gray tarp. I don't remember how much the tarp cost - it was a leftover - but it made wonderful animals! We simply outlined them with thick, black marker (using the overhead projector to enlarge them) and added a few painted highlights - mostly white for the tusks, teeth, horns and eyes, and maybe a little pink for the tongues. They looked great, and the slightly rough texture of the tarp made really authentic looking skin. After VBS, we folded them up and have used them again.

This year we bought huge styrofoam sheets and traced out animals. The sheets were about $7.00 and once they were painted they look absoluely amazing.

How do you trace and paint on styrofoam? I'm clueless I guess. But with a week to go, I'm also panicked!

We used an overhead projector to trace out the animals and just used a black permanent marker.

Next we just got the bottles of Tempera paint. This paint is inexpensive and worked fine.

We decided to do a large elephant, small elephant, a jeep, a zebra, a monkey, and a lion.

I will be praying for you! :-)
