I mentioned to my VBS crazy new assoc pastor that we would need to keep a few of the western town decorations (ie campfire). Right away she said - I know exactly how I will decorate my room!
I love it - finally someone to talk VBS with before our VBS is even over!!!!!

You know I'm kidding when I say you're crazy. I think it's really hard to not think about next year when they came out with the themes so early this year. I already like next year's choices better.
My husband and I run our children's ministry program all year long, but VBS is my favorite thing to do.

Well, I am crazy and so is my new assoc pastor.
We always know the theme by the time our VBS comes around so it is hard not to look around and plan for next years decorations. As well as deciding what is working, what isn't, what to improve and what to add....

I know I'm already planning for next year and our closing program for this year is Sunday. I've already let some people know to start looking for small pieces of wood and small flashlights to use for those cool tissue paper fires. And, I'll be keeping a look-out for blue saran wrap. Hopefully, I can figure out some waterless water type effect for it. :o

I wonder how blue saran wrap or a role of that blue plastic table cloth you can get at dollar stores would look if it had a few small fans blowing gently in different directions just underneath it to create a "ripple" effect...
Guess I'm a bit crazy too, TrinityJen. Still have 3 more VBS's to direct this summer and I'm already excited the potentil for next summer's VBS theme :D

Here's how we do waterfalls - and these go against a wall, not in a doorway, since it will get destroyed. There is a blue mylar fringed thing that is designed to hang in a doorway. It's very pretty, and with kids walking by and the a/c blowing, it is light enough to ripple. So, what I do is pick out my wallspace, and get a piece of blue butcher paper that matches the size of the blue mylar dealie. Spatter silver and blue glitter onto the butcher paper, and hang on the wall, then hang the blue mylar over it. Kinda three-d, shimmery, and very fun. Build your brown paper "rocks" around it....and ta-da! This year, of course, I will have to figure out how to make some trout on wires leaping out of the water.....hmmmmm......

Geekgirl-- thanks for the idea about waterfalls! sounds neat! You mentioned the fish-- I don't know what you had in mind, but yesterday at Walmart I found some cute fish with suction cups on the back ( actually bath tub stickies) that I'm going to use-- they had some frogs too, that I thought would make cute accents to my camping scenes. I found them on a rack hanging off a shelf in the towel section. Our walls in the hallways and fellowship hall are smooth paint, so I'm hoping they will stick good without any adhesives-- we will see!

I wonder why we don't have the fish clip art anywhere?
