I have been very frustrated with the application portion of the bible story lessons. Does anyone have any thought/ideas for hands-on application after the bible stories are told??? Doris in Sheboygan

I did a sermon on VBS Sunday on the application part! The teacher devotions were a great resource. I talked about what it means to choose Jesus. First we need to believe like the blind man -- he didn't hesitate to do what was asked! Believing in Jesus means more than just knowing his stories or knowing he exists. We must also choose to act. This means to show compassion to all just as Jesus did. He cared for the lepers even though nobody else did. We must choose forgiveness. Jesus saw how the four friends believed and acted when they helped thier friend. I can't help but wonder if the forgiveness part was also directed at the friends, not just the paralytic. We need to check our attitudes each day and ask for forgiveness if we choose Jesus. We need to choose to obey. The rich young ruler "chose Jesus" but in the end did not want to follow the guidance Jesus gave. He did not realize that whatever Jesus asks of us, he will be there to help us. All these parts must be included if we truly choose Jesus.
Hope this helps some!

Our teachers have found that the student guides make it easy to get discussion started--or if we need to be more active, we play the memory verse game from the
Bible Games Center Guide. Hope that helps.

When we discussed the blind man, we blindfolded the kids and took in groups around the church. They had to believe what their leader was telling them. Then we talked about believing when we got back to the room.
