Romans 12:2
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
*******************************************
Even in something as simple and necessary as food and exercise, Americans are falling victim to major disease directly related to poor diet and inactivity. Within the walls of the church, it is perhaps the greatest and most acceptable sin, and it crosses all denominational borders. Preachers seldom talk about it from the pulpit. Approximately 60% of ministers are overweight and inactive. The sin of self-neglect is reflected on the outside of the body in the form of excess fat and inside of the body in the form of disease. It isn’t like other sins of the flesh that we can indulge in and successfully hide from others around us.
God calls us to be different. To think, speak and behave different from those who are in the world. Yet sometimes it is hard to distinguish a Christian from one who isn’t. We have more ways to lose weight, more diet gurus, diet doctors, health food fanatics and diet foods than ever! There is sugar-free, fat-free, low carb, no carb, and yet there is an epidemic of overweight, out-of-shape Americans. We are a nation boasting the fattest and least healthy people on the planet!
Man has turned away from God’s basic principles of health and nutrition. We have grown sedentary and embraced a menu of artificial food that is killing us. It is time for Christians to denounce the world’s destructive system and return to God’s instruction for life and health. His Word tells us that we must begin by thinking with a new mind and having a new attitude. Imagine that to change your life overnight, all it takes is simply a change in the way you think and act.
Lord, today I am turning away from Twinkies oh so sweet,
Because they aren’t the food You created for me to eat.
I will no longer be idle and listen to Satan’s lies.
I know my health depends on how much I exercise!
