I modified the promotional skit because I wanted it to include the skit characters. I'm posting it here in case anyone else would like to use it. I had to shorten the dialogue because the two guys I have asked to play the parts of Jerry and Joe are not thrilled about having speaking roles, but are the strongest ones I can get to do it! ;-)
SonWorld Adventure Park VBS 2008 Promotional Skit
Characters:
Jerry - Park Maintenance Man, older
Joe - Park Maintenance Man, younger
Dusty Chaps
Flora Rose
Captain Blackbird
Skip Truheart
Props:
Two handtrucks
oil cans
screwdrivers/wrenches
dustrags
Jerry and Joe bring in Captain, Flora Rose and Skip on handtrucks, one at a time, bringing in Dusty last. The skit characters are “frozen” in place, and stand rigid for most of the skit. While they talk, Jerry and Joe “work” on the figures.
Jerry: There, that’s the last one. These animatronic figures are heavy, especially this old cowboy, Dusty Chaps. He’s one of the oldest
animatrons we have here at SonWorld Adventure Park.
Joe: You aren’t kidding they’re heavy! Even Flora Rose here, as little as she is,
feels like she weighs a ton. Robot technology is heavy!
Jerry: Yep, but it’s important that we make sure they’re in good working order
before the park opens tomorrow. The kids will be disappointed if they
don’t see these folks in their spots in Celebration Square.
Joe: Now tell me again - what is SonWorld going to be like? Since this is my first
year, I can hardly imagine it.
Jerry: Whooee - this place is going to be filled with children of all sizes! Once
the gates open, they will have the run of the place. They’ll be singing
songs and making stuff and playing games and eating snacks.
Joe: That sounds awesome!
Jerry: It is, but the best part is they will be hearing fascinating true stories from
the Bible - stories that will help them make wise choices in their lives.
Joe: Cool! That’s the most important thing anybody can learn!
Jerry: You got it. Now let’s see if we’ve got these folks in fine working order.
(Goes to Skip and presses “button” on back.)
Skip: To boldly reach for the stars! (freezes back in original position)
Joe: How about this one?
(Goes to Flora, presses “button”.)
Flora Rose: Dreams really do come true! (freezes)
Joe: Hey, what about the frog?
Jerry: Try him out too!
(Presses button.)
William: Ribbit! Ribbit!
Jerry: Two more to go.
(They go to Captain and Dusty and take turns pressing buttons.)
Captain: Away, ye scurvy scoundrels! (freezes)
Dusty: Home, home on the stage! Range! (freezes)
Jerry: Looks like they’re ready!
Joe: And I’m ready for SonWorld Adventure Park to begin! Fun, here we come!
They “load up” each figure and roll them off stage, talking to each other about the park and how heavy the figures are, while leader gets up to give more information.
