I just started a first place group in my church. What scares me is that I have never actually participated in a group myself. I know God wants me to do this. But I feel SO inadequate to the task.

Hi Misty!! :)
You will do soooooooo well leading a group!!! Because if you feel God wants you to do this, then HE will give you the power and the knowledge and skills to do it!!
There's no doubt in my mind. When I started leading my first group, I thought, "Me? You're kidding, right God?"
The reason He was able to use me and He will be able to use YOU is because you and I already KNEW we were completely inadequate!! So He can work THROUGH us, in His power! We can't get in His way, because we feel totally inept! It's a perfect set-up!
God bless you for stepping out in faith to do this. You will be a blessing and will be blessed as you move forward. If you ever want to email me with anything, please do! I probably won't have the answer, but I know where to go to FIND it! haha
Love, pj

Greetings to my Oregon neighbor. I live next door in Washington state!
The first time I was responsible for leading a Faith-based weight loss group, I had only been saved for 1 year, still knew little about the Bible, and I was so insecure that I said, "No, I cannot lead a group" for three months, though two dedicated Christian women believed I could. I had spent only one year under the leadership of another and had lost 70 pounds, but was still so very green. When I finally gave in and said yes, I can still remember how scared I was. I would get so nervous that when it was time to pray, my mind would go blank. I started writing out my prayers and then memorizing them. I did this for a long time until one night the Lord cured me of my insecurity. When it came time to pray, in the middle of the prayer, I lost my place and forgot what was to come next. I thought I had it memorized, but this one time my memory let me down. That's when I had to start praying straight from my heart and from that time on I did. Now imagine God taking someone like that and you know what He did? He used my own shortcomings and ignorance and He began to build on it. I grew and changed and our group prospered and we continued on for 12 years, never missing a meeting! Then in 2004 He called me back and I have been in the ministry again since. I am in awe of what God did. And it had nothing whatsoever to do with me except that one day I finally said YES. Do not fear for God has given you power and a sound mind. Go forward with the confidence that many great things await both you and your group members. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
God bless you all,
Suzy Q

Hi Misty,
I certainly can relate, we are just now entering session 3 of our fairly new groups at church. I also knew God was leading me to do this, the timing was right BUT~ There are many times I also feel inadequate BUT GOD is able to do abundantly more than we could ever imagine and HE WILL DO IT as you allow him to work through you. Don't be afraid to ask for support and help when you need it! It will all fall into place as you step aside and allow God to do the work! I'm pulling for you....

God too has called me to lead a group at church. I have done First Place before and really enjoyed it. I have not been part of a group in a couple of years but God has been nudging me but I kept telling Him I needed confermation. I had a woman come up to me a few weeks ago and said that God was telling her to tell me that I am to teach. Then our church is starting a weight loss group but needed someone to teach. I finally took the hint and said that I would do it. I am scared of failing but I am also excited about doing what God wants me to do. I have to remember that God has not given us a spirit of fear....
