I know a VBS director at another church who works with 4 other churches to make the decorations for each theme center. The decorations then travel from church to church throughout the summer.

Is there anyone in the Portland, OR area that would like to share the responsiblities for creating decorations?

That is a great idea!!! It wouldn't work for me, though, cause the other Baptist churches use Lifeway, not Gospel Light-- That's one reason we choose GL each year, just to have a different theme! Good luck with your decorating!

Try looking for churches from other denominations. The woman I know is from an Evangelical church and there are churches from at least two other denominations that collaborate with her. I'm hoping to find anyone who's doing Gospel Light's VBS to share the decorating responsibility.

Our local Christian Bookstore used to keep a VBS bulletin board. VBS directors were encouraged to fill out a little info. card which gave church name, contact person, phone #, VBS program being used and VBS dates. It was very helpful in finding local churches to connect and share resources with!

If you would like to network with other churches in decorating for VBS, I would create a list of all the local churches and call each one. Make sure you include the churches that have used Gospel Light in the past. The Publicity Banners for each of the churches different VBS programs can be so helpful for us as VBS Directors. I would write down all of the VBS programs that churches did this year as summer approaches so you could possibly work with them in the future.

Also, once you've networked with another church for VBS, have them stop over to the Message Board for ideas that they can use and possibly add to the ideas here.
God Bless,

If you are going to lend any of your decorations, please make very clear to the borrowing church which items you want returned and make arrangements for them to be returned ASAP after VBS. I had a bad experience last year with some of our exquisitely-prepared decorations not making it back to us, and now the VBS director from the borrowing church has resigned, and no one is quite sure where our murals, lights, etc. are.

For those of us who put months of prep into constructing fabulous signs and murals and all kinds of stuff, it is hugely disappointing to have it lost.

Sorry to be a downer; just be careful out there, ok?

Thanks for the advice. I've all ready thought of the possibility of things getting destroyed or lost. (I think my church has been guilty of that in the past, but I'm not sure as I'm a new director). I would not "share" any decorations with another church that I would be afraid of losing. Only those that we wouldn't miss.

Greetings Fellow Christian VBS Leaders, Directors and volunteers.
I am starting to gather decorating ideas and would like to partner with you to come up with spectacular decor that will rock the socks off the kids and parents. We can then share them back and forth. I'm on the Peninsula and our program is set for the 1st week of August. Please get back to me if you are interested. Blessings!

Hi - I'm in Hood River, Oregon (about an hour east of Portland) and would like to work with any of you who are interested, to share decorations and/or supplies. Please let me know what you'd like to do. We have such a limited budget here, and not a lot of people either... I'm trying to get the biggest bang for our buck. Sharing would be a huge help.
