Group Names

What are the ideas you have for group names?

Last year I used shuttle crew names. This year I am having trouble coming up with ideas.

I am also having difficulting thinking up something for my Spirit/Memory Verse/Offering awards. Last year I had rocket awards that each group could put on their banner. They were the perfect shape and fit the them well. (See the attachment)

You could do Amusement Park Ride Names. If you look at the SonWorld Adventure Park Wallpaper, Gospel Light has names of rides you can use or create your own. Another idea is different food that is at Amusment Parks.

There should be some samples for Group Names in the Director Guide.

For awards, you could do enlarged tickets, flags, or something that goes with the different skit characters like stars, cowboy hat, crown/castle, and frog.

These are just the ideas off the top of my head.

Here are my group names: Raging Rapids, Fearless Ferris Wheels, Super Sky Buckets, Magnificent Magic Carpets, Twirling Teacups, Lively Logrides, Sensational Swings, Tireless Trains, Cool Cars, Remarkable Rockets, Boundless Boats, Charming Carousels, Courageous Coasters, Swift Submarines, Powerful Parachutes, Thrilling Tower Drop

Josh is right, we do suggest some group names in the Director's Guide. Here they are:

Type of Amusement Park Rides: Colossal Coasters, Fantastic Ferris Wheels, Ready Rockets, Crazy Carousels, Cool Cars, Sensational Submarines, Lucky Log Rides, etc.

Based on Skit Characters: Captain Blackbird’s Pirates, Flora Rose’s Castle Crew, William’s Froggy Friends, Skip’s Space Explorers, Dusty’s Ranch Hands, etc.

I only have five groups to name, so I'm going with the character names that GL suggested. I have been thinking I would highlight one character every day, maybe we would dress as that character, the group with that name would be first at doing things, etc. That way I would have my "special days" covered too.

That's what I did last year with SonForce Kids. I only had 5 groups and assigned each group a skit character. One group was the Gadget group and one group was the Robot group and so on. It was cool to see that the 4th and 5th grade group really got into it and would yell out their group name whenever they switched centers.

okay I am feeling lost. Group names, rewards..... we didn't do these things last year. We assigned the different age groups colors. That all seems boring and your VBS' sound fun and exciting.

How are you all doing these things? What kind of budgets do you have? I have $2000 total for everything - curriculum, food, crafts, publicity etc. and we do this as outreach so no reg fees coming in.

On another note, I couldn't find a guide or other resources for the Missions and Service Center. Did I miss it somewhere? I have to admit, it took me all night to go through the brochure and work out what was what and what I need to purchase (a 1/4 of my budget).

Hi NewDirector,
We are such a small church, I can't help you with budget matters. Our congregation gives all the collection plate to VBS one Sunday and we always have gobs to use and the rest goes to our mission project.
Your mission material is in the director's manuel. We are going to send part of our money to the GL mission project this year because I want to use the material they have provided. I think the kids will enjoy learning about the children of India. This is the first year we have used "missions" as a rotation.

I just took a car trip for spring break, lots of VBS brain storming going on!!!

This is what I am thinking for the group banners. I will print them 11x14 color and glue to foam board then attach to PVC pipe poles.

The names still need a little work.

Plus I still need a few more groups, I need to figure out how many groups I will have this year.
