I was just at CPC Orlando and was able to bounce ideas back and forth with other VBS Directors. One person I spoke with said she felt stuck using Group because the mixed-age levels worked so well for her. She really liked the SonWorld theme but didn't want to separate the ages. I was happy to let her know that she didn't have to feel stuck, she could use SonWorld AND keep her mixed age groups!
What I have done in the past is kept the ages mixed but used the Middler (3rd-4th grade) guides or suggestions. The cool thing about Middler is it doesn't seem too hard for my little kids or too boring for my older ones. Plus if I need it, the guides give suggestions to make the activities a little easier or more challenging. It's great to have a program that can be flexible! :)
