First time director of VBS

I was asked to be director of VBS for this summer and am real excited about the Son World program. I have attended workshops at our local christian book store and just wanted any helpful hints for getting volunteers. We are a small church. I am having the youth group help out. Thanks

Pray, Pray Pray then ask, ask, ask....know what you need before someone asks. You need to ask groups and individual people. Stay in constant prayer and you never know who God will have you walk into during the day.

Post a chart somewhere w/ the jobs you have, what ones are filled and what ones are blank. How can people help if they are not free during VBS hours, decorating, making snacks, bringing snacks for volunteers, etc. Dream big, you never know what someone will volunteer to do.

I never would have taught VBS my first year if I wouldn't have been asked directly to co-teach w/ a more experienced teacher, only 6 years later and I am director.
