The same two people who made the snacks last year offered on Wednesday night to do the snacks for this year as well. :D LOL, I went looking for the Recreation/Snack book in the kit and couldn't find it. I eventually found it towards the back of the Director's Guide.

Well, that's one section definitely being taking care of. :)

Just a general question.... How do you handle snack time?
For the past few years, I have been in charge of snacks and I have gotten pretty elaborate. Back in the day, we used to just have fruit, cookies and drinks. I created snacks based on the themes (thanks to some ideas found here) and was sure to have a 20-25 minute sit-down snack time. Since I'm the director this year, I'm considering a bagged snack...something that the kids can help themselves to without much assistance or prep-time on my part. Feel free to post any ideas that have worked for you in the past.
Thanks!

We always have snack as one of our centers. So it lasts for 20 minutes. SOmetimes they will have an elaborate snack that they need to make or decorate, other times it is something more simple. They will usually have a simple sit down game or something to play if there is extra time. Last year we didn't do the skit so they watched the skit dvd during snack time. At my mom's church they do a very simple snack, no prep needed, but they have aver 300 kids, we only have 80-100.

Like kimbak's church, we also only have a 20 minute block for snacks. We pick and choose from among the snacks suggested in the material. If they are very elaborate, we either do not do them, or simplify them. We have two people in charge of snacks. These two prepare plates with all of the needed materials divided out for each student, every 20 minutes. (We only have 4 rotations, so it's not really a big deal.) That way, when one group leaves, they are able to quickly reset the tables with the premade plates. Every student gets the same thing unless there is a known food allergy.

The bagged option you've mentioned sounds great! There are all sorts of great bagged snacks: Popcorn, Chex Mix, Marshmallow Cereal... =)

What my kids loved at SonHarvet were the Donkey/Mule Smiles. Apple wedges, peanut butter and marshmallows for the teeth. It is probably in the snack guide.

we pre-make as much as possible, then the kids have plenty of time to eat, go over their memory verse, and get to the restroom. I have someone in charge of the kitchen :)

We have our snack and game time in the rotation also, but combined for a total of 20 minutes. We have a couple people in charge of snacks and they take care of everything. I think she followed the snack ideas that were in the book...I know we are having peach parfaits, grapes, and caramel apples. The last day we have the parents come to a program and we have hot dogs, chips, fruit, and cake after the program.

After watching our video from SonHarvest when we did it the first go round, I was reminded how yummy the snacks were! We had some sort of fruit that matched that fruit that day. We had the peach parfaits with sliced peaches and vanilla yogurt, watermelon slices, grapes and cheese, and homemade biscuits with strawberry jam. I can't remember the last one, but everyone loved snacks that year!
