PERFECT CONDITIONS
Ecclesiastes 11:4
“If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.”
***********************************
Carol’s excuse for not dealing with her extra 80 pounds is due to being so busy. With her home, children, job, and church responsibilities there isn’t any time left for herself.
Lisa’s reason for not taking charge of her health is stress. Her husband works long hours, they seldom spend time together and her boss makes impossible demands on her. She says when things change she can concentrate on managing her eating and begin exercising.
Excuses! We all have them, but we are not being honest when we avoid the greatest responsibility of all and that is to care for ourselves. If Carol and Lisa were honest, they would admit they need to take responsibility for their lives. The truth is they are not motivated to lose weight. Making a lifestyle change is too much hard work. Even a threat to their health is not enough to move them into action.
The harsh reality is that there are no perfect conditions in life. There will always be something, a situation, an event, a person, that we can use as an excuse not to take that first step to change. Proverbs 16:3 tells us to commit our work to the Lord and it will succeed. However before we can do that we must first agree to begin the work.
Though each new day offers us the chance to begin the task, eventually time is going to run out. (Psalm 89:47) It is wiser to start today, “redeeming the time” while we can. (Colossians 4:5) There are no perfect conditions, only a perfect Savior to help you make the most of every day.
