I am waiting for the new SonWorld boards and website to be on-line. Until then...what are everyone’s ideas.

I took my kids to the library and picked out a book about a carnival (for them) that had great drawings of a ferris wheel, carrousel, and roller coaster. Who knows but they might be handy for murals.

A couple of my ideas, I am thinking: Paper carrousel horses down a hallway. Adding a giant snack food (hot dog, carton of fries, etc) to the roof of the ‘snack shack/pizza pod’. Big side-show posters showing the Bible stories (I don’t know how I will do that). I will mail out save-the-date ‘tickets’ probably on magnets in the spring.

What are you thinking?

Hey TrinityJen,

My co-directors and I went out the night vbs ended to celebrate/vent!!

We got into a great brainstorming session. Our husbands and kids were with us. Some of these ideas were our kids! :D Here are some:

A large roller coaster setting. Using wood and boxes to create coaster hills and attatching small child/toddler cars (the type they get into and use feet to push) that we would pick up in yard sales in the spring.
Getting donations of kinex and tinker toys to build a giant ferris wheel.
Making a large size floom going into a baby pool with 16-18 inch dolls in the cars made of boxes.
Renting or buying at Sams Club a popcorn maker.
Using tickets as prizes that they would have to collect and use on the closing day to cash in for prizes instead of directly handing out prizes.
Having carnival games in the snack area to play when done eating.

I know there were others, I just cant think of them now::)

My VBS team also had an after VBS meeting to discuss things that went well or didn't and talk about expanding. This year we planned for 250 kids and had 265 come and I had to turn away about 10-15 more because we had no more supplies. 2008 we will plan for 300 kids! Several people stayed after the meeting and we also started brainstorming about decorating and such for next year.

I am thinking big archway type entrances with SonWorld logo. This can easily be done with carpet tubes standing upright and then make a cross bar out of 2 x 4's. Paint and cut out of foam insulation a SonWorld logo and attach to the 2 x4.

Also thought there should be directional signs scattered about as to where the different parts of the "park" are.

We also thought carousel - I want to do the animals on the foam insulation and attach to decorator fabric tubes. The engineer in me is coming out and I am wondering how I could make them go up and down on the "poles."

Looking forward to more info coming out!

Y'all have me inspired already...

*pool noodle roller coaster tracks leading to the rooms
*small to medium boxes with the tops and bottoms folded in to have the kids stand in as roller coaster "cars"
*a box with a pool noodle around it as a bumper car
*multi-colored flags like they use outdoors for grand openings
*tickets to be earned for rewards
*some sort of turnstyle entry - maybe make with cardboard tubes from gift wrap
*stamp hands with ink that can be seen with a black light for "re-entry" into the assembly area for the closing

**hand out a "season pass" to all visitors to invite them back for worship services

I think I am going to have the name tags be Season Passes - Unlimited entry!

Wow!!!
Mission 2007 complete. During closing Agent D graduated to D+(my husband Dan). Near the very end he brought out his next assignment for me to read. So I read the posted blurb for 2008; while he started pulling out wigs, clown suits and horns for the disguise - in the end I told him that there is no need for a disguise everyone gets to come, it will be the best ride in town - you'll see! Watch for our under the big top -preview this fall.
So that is where we will start - thanks for all your ideas because we will be using some of them this fall before the kit even comes out!

as soon as i saw the theme my brain was moving... every year we have a carnival at our church the week of easter and it is open to the community so we are thing about having a one day event the saturday after VBS and for each student that comes the entire week will enter free then we will charge maybe a $5 cover for the entire day and do like a mobile vbs out doors...

besides that we are thinking of turnstyle entry, love the idea of making and outdoor archway... i think we are going to make bumper cars as seating in the sanctuary (where we do the ministry part) and roller coaster tracks to look like they are weaving in and out of our ceiling... we like to do puppet shows so we are thinging of making our alter look like a midway where the puppets can come out of from behind...

OT has specials right now on carnival games and supplies... we may pick some up...

we are also thinking about making full comstumes for each of our bible stories... like when you go to Disney, the characters come out in a parade we are thinking of doing one on graduation day...

that's all i have for now

another idea we came up with is like a theme park map to give to each child that will include activities for the week...

We just finished SonForce kids on Friday, but we came up with our idea for collecting the kids money. This year we had two plastic rockets with small holes in the top - sadly the kids figured out how to tip the rockets and stick their hands in and take money out. So our idea came from trying to figure out a way for them not to be able to swtich the money from the boys to the girls. So we decided to make a roller coaster and have the change run down a roller coaster. Luckily we have a member who works with plastic and is already starting to work on the design I will let you all know what he comes us with!

My son loves K-nex and has an entire amusement park of rides that can be built - roller coasters that run, carousels, and swings. We are going to invite our older kids a couple of weeks before and have them build all of the rides and have a mini-amusement park set up in our foyer.
