Joshua 6:20
“So when the people heard the trumpet blast, they shouted as loud as they could. And suddenly the walls of Jericho crumbled and fell before them and the people of Israel poured into the city from every side and captured it!”

Joshua was a great warrior, who disciplined his forces but also prayed and trusted God. As a personal attendant of Moses, Joshua helped lead the people into the Promised Land. He also fought the battle of Jericho and the city was taken as a direct result of God’s help.

As overeaters, we also have physical and spiritual battles to fight. Joshua’s walls were made of stone. Ours are constructed of fat! What qualities did Joshua possess that enabled him such an immense victory? He was OBEDIENT. God gave him a solemn warning to keep close to His laws (Joshua 1:7). Joshua obeyed and God blessed him with phenomenal success.

As a warrior and leader Joshua was DISCIPLINED, ACCOUNTABLE TO GOD, and had his PRIORITIES IN PROPER ORDER. If we are to have victory in the hand-to-hand combat against our food demons, we must begin by listening to God’s instruction and trusting Him. A fighting spirit as an absolute must, not a wishy-washy attitude of indifference. We need to hold ourselves accountable before God in areas of prayer, Bible reading, exercise, and what we eat.

To become disciplined we have to daily determine that we will not allow anything to deter us from God’s course of action. Our list of priorities must be checked to make certain this commitment of a new lifestyle is not at the bottom of the heap. It isn’t something you can do on days of your choosing and totally disregard on others. The battle will be as easy or as difficult as you make it. Until you choose to change your attitudes regarding God, food and your body, you will forever be fighting a battle you will never win.
Joshua’s example of a warrior strong and brave
Was reflected in his victories and how he behaved.
I want to be like Joshua and follow God’s command,
As I’m led out of the desert into my promised land.
