Today was the first day of VBS for us at my home church CCUC (www.ccuc.net) in the heart of Chicago Chinatown. My Church actually calls it Vacation Bible Club because we dont want to turn kids away from the whole "school" idea since it is the summer.

It was a great first day, 124 kids showed up which was totally a surprise and a blessing! We ususally average around 80 on the first day. We will be expecting more as we get more into it.

This has been the 3rd year that i've been in charge of decorations. I must admit, this year was the most challenging themes I have ever dealt with. Thought I give you guys a little sneak peak on what I have been working on the past 2 weeks. I will post up more pictures of the rest of the decorations as they come available! Enjoy!!

Great pictures!!! I loved your decorations. It looks like the kids and adults were having fun. Our VBS is still a few weeks away, so thanks for the inspiration.

Is the backdrop on the stage picture done with glow in the dark or some kind of blacklight paint? It looks like it is glowing!!!! I just started mine today and thought that maybe a little glow paint might look cool.

Yup! I did use glow in the dark paint. Just to warn you though, it is quite expensive. At blicks it was 72 dollars for a pint, but since im a student preferred member, i only had to pay 32 dollars.

Everyone looks like they are having alot of fun and you sue have a large number a male volunteers. Your VBS must be really feeling blessed.
