Have you ever wondered how you can apply scripture to your exercise routine and therefore create both a physical and spiritual experience at the same time? Here are some examples:

When reaching your hands above your head and pulling down, quote 2 Corinthians 10:4, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” Visualize yourself pulling down every stronghold of the enemy.

When clapping your hands, think of Psalm 139:14, “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Thank God for giving you a body of mystery and uniqueness.

When you kick or walk in place remind yourself that in time as you build your physical stamina, you will be swift and light on your feet like the deer mentioned in Psalm 18:33, “He makes my feet like the feet of deer and sets me on high places.”

Let Psalm 63:1 and 4 express your gratitude to God every time you lift your hands. “O God, You are my God…My soul thirsts for You…Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your Name.” Be thankful for your health.

Any time you use your arms in weight lifting or resistance training, think of Deuteronomy 33:27. “The eternal God is your refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms…” God’s arms are always there to give you the support you need.

During times when you feel too tired to continue exercising, set your mind firmly on Psalm 18:32. “It is God Who gives me strength and makes my way perfect.”

There are so many wonderful passages in the Bible that we can tuck away in our hearts and draw from their life-giving words during our exercise. Find those that specifically speak to you and memorize them. You will find that they strengthen and refresh your spirit, adding a special touch to your workout each time you exercise with the Lord.
