2 Corinthians 10:17
“If anyone is going to boast, let him boast about what the Lord has done and not about himself.”

When someone experiences dramatic weight loss, it often changes their outlook and behavior. It can be positive or negative. Sometimes the new body attracts so much attention; the slimmer individual becomes enamored with self, developing an inflated ego, and begins boasting about what they have accomplished. They thrive on all the compliments and the surprising reactions to their weight loss.

Fat or thin, such persons are centered on self! For the believer who finds them self 40, 80 or 100 pounds lighter, the attitude is much different. Though they are truly happy with their trimmer, healthier body, they realize the potential to lose control again is always there. They give God the glory for their achievements and remain humbly thankful though people may shower them with compliments and attention.

They also have a heart for others still locked within prison walls of fat. There is a strong desire to be a witness to the power of God by sharing their weight loss experience. “Yes God will give you much so that you can give away much…” 2 Corinthians 9:11.

Whether you have reached your goal weight or still have more to lose, guard your heart and mind of vain thoughts, fleeting flattery, and never accept any glory that rightfully belongs to God. Use your new found freedom to help others. Be an example that people will want to follow, and one that God will be pleased with. Diana Black once said, “Big egos are big shields for lots of empty space.”
